Overview The role: Research Manager To help Gallagher Re further grow the GRC, we seek a highly motivated Research Manager with a background in one or more natural perils (e.g., meteorology, hydrology, earthquakes, or related discipline). Reporting into the GRC Research Director and being part of the GRC Management team, this role will focus on both developing and actively managing a range of Gallagher-funded academic research programs with collaborating universities. How you'll make an impact The core responsibilities: The GRC Research Manager is the key liaison between research and industry, ensuring that research projects run within budget, that deliverable targets are fully met and that programs are ran on time. This requires excellent project management skills and coordination with both internal and external stakeholders. The role is expected to provide guidance on the implementation of the research as well as working closely with Gallagher central and regional analytics teams to facilitate regular meetings with academics. The GRC Research Manager will be responsible for profiling the outputs of the research through featured articles on the website and/or via newsletters. This will include close liaison with the Gallagher Re marketing and thought leadership teams. The key responsibilities: Engage with academics to understand the latest scientific research across a range of natural hazards relevant to the insurance industry (including flood, windstorm, severe convective storm, earthquake, fire). Chair internal stakeholder sessions with reinsurance practitioners to understand the Nat Cat research requirements across Gallagher’s Global Products. Project manage concurrent academic research projects with different Universities and research fellows Ensure that deliverables from research projects can be implemented back into Gallagher Re models / services / thought leadership. Provide expert guidance on the research being carried to ensure business value is derived from its outputs. Stay abreast of research developments in their area of specialism and working with the academic partners to monitor latest research trends. Work alongside GRC Management and across multiple GRC Working Groups to; identify and contact suitable academic partners / research fellows; and to define the scope and business case of future research agendas. Use research findings to define and author content for GRC profiling / marketing Plan and support execution of GRC webinars & conference alongside the Research Administrator: Working alongside GRC Management to plan and delivery GRC seminars / webinars on topical issues. Attend academic/industry conferences to support networking opportunities. About you The qualifications: The candidate should have; MSc or higher in one (or more) of the natural sciences such as Hydrology / Meteorology / Earthquake / Geographical Information Systems. Excellent presentation, communication skills and time keeping Working experience of project management Applied knowledge of modelling natural hazards (in one or more of the natural sciences) Understanding of how academic research is applied in the re/insurance industry Awareness of academic research publishing Ability to convey technical concepts and findings to non-technical audiences Be self-motivated with a strong interest in the subject matter Compensation and benefits On top of a competitive salary, great teams and exciting career opportunities, we also offer a wide range of benefits.
