Joby is looking for an electrical or software engineer with experience in electronics manufacturing and software development. Ideal candidates would contain both strong Python skills, electronics test equipment experience, and a firm understanding of the software/hardware interface.
Specifically, this role will develop software that enables the automation of electronics manufacturing tests in an aerospace production environment. The manufacturing test software includes a full stack that leverages containerized microservices that directly interact with test benches. This manufacturing test software is responsible for certifying line-replaceable-units (LRU), the heart and soul of Joby’s aircraft. This role develops back end software frameworks in Python that interact with test equipment (digital multimeters, power supplies, measurement devices, etc.) and communicates with a unit under test using networking protocols.
Responsibilities Build and develop over 30 unique electronics test stations that enable the production of Joby’s avionics systemDevelop Python software that directly interacts with test equipment (ie. power supplies, multimeters, data acquisition devices) to automate electronics testing Use Agile software development to deliver manufacturing test softwareParticipate in software design discussions to ensure manufacturing needs are metDevelop and execute tests to ensure FAA compliance of avionics equipmentProfessional Python development that includes experience with networking, Modbus, and Serial protocolsPhysical setup of electronics test stationsInterfacing with hardware engineers and manufacturing technicians to ensure successful delivery of test software Required University degree in computer science, computer engineering or electrical engineering and 3+ years full time industry experience. An advanced degree and 1+ year of practical experience will also be considered.Experience with electronics test equipment (multimeters, power supplies, data acquisition devices)Strong Python programming experience and an exposure to other languages such as: C++, C#, C, SQLExperience in software development for production test equipment in a manufacturing environment Desired Mature understanding of Continuous Integration, Continuous Development (CI/CD) and DevOps toolsExperience with networking, Modbus, I2C, and Serial protocolPositive attitude and self-motivated work ethicAbility to work effectively as a team member in a geographically distributed teamAbility to work closely with the software development team, and teams in other domains, gathering requirements and feedback.Experience designing and implementing test strategies to assess the reliability of automation frameworks and librariesWillingness to be flexible and learn new technologiesCompensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $96,700 - $154,300 year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
